LA District Attorney reviewing Harvey Weinstein sex crime cases from police

SINCE the first reports about Harvey Weinstein broke in October, there have been scores of allegations against the disgraced producer but no charges. That might be about to change.

TWO of Harvey Wesintein’s alleged sex crime cases have been sent to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office for review, which could bring the first criminal charges on the disgraced film producer.

The Beverly Hills Police Department has submitted two cases against Weinstein, who has so far faced allegations of sexual misconduct but not criminal charges.

It is unclear which cases were sent to the DA.

More than 70 women — including stars such as Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rose McGowan — have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, sexual assault or rape since early October.

Weinstein has routinely denied all accusations of nonconsensual sex.

No details of the allegations were immediately available and the DA’s office has yet to decide whether to bring charges.

“Two cases have been presented to our office by the Beverly Hills Police Department regarding Mr. Weinstein and are under review,” DA spokesman Greg Risling said.

In addition, the Beverly Hills department also submitted five potential cases against director James Toback, who has also denied allegations against him.

All seven cases were submitted for review on December 18, according to the DA’s office.

It comes as cohort of more than 300 actors, writers, producers and directors launched a campaign this week called Time’s Up, to bring awareness around harassment in the entertainment industry and other workplaces.

Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston and Meryl Streep are among the string of big names to get on board with the movement, which will advocate for legislation to combat workplace harassment.

The scandal has brought down numerous big names in Hollywood and exposed what had long been considered tinsel town’s secret shame.

The explosive allegations against Weinstein also prompted a massive social media campaign that saw millions share their own stories of harassment and sexism under the hashtag #MeToo.

The LA District Attorney’s office has established a task force to review sexual assault allegations arising from the Weinstein scandal, though to date no one has been charged.

Weinstein is also under investigation for alleged assaults in Los Angeles, New York and London.

So far, the Los Angeles Police Department has not submitted any investigations to the DA’s office for review.
