Justin Hemmes’ Merivale unveils Sydney Cricket Ground’s new food menu

Justin Hemmes’ Merivale has unveiled its new food line-up for the Sydney Cricket Ground. Find out what’s on the menu.

Fans who headed to the Big Bash over the weekend were delighted to find they could still get a humble meat pie now that Justin Hemmes’ Merivale has taken control of the food and beverage service at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

However along with the $5.50 footy favourite from Four ’n’ Twenty, customers could also upgrade to a homemade braised beef pie for $8 or a sausage roll from Newport’s Berts for $8.

Merivale has unveiled its food line-up since being announced as the exclusive hospitality experience partner of the SCG and SFS precinct.

Among the new offerings are dumplings and noodles from Queen Chow, Jimmy’s Falafel for $15 and hot dogs from EL Loco with pico de gallo, jalapeño, mustard relish, mayonnaise and queso fresco.

Of course, if you want a standard beef hot dog with mustard and tomato sauce, you can get that too!

At the Queens Express outlet, you can purchase some of Dan Hongs prawn dumplings or spring rolls for $12.00.

Meanwhile, at Pavillon Fish, inspired by Jordan Toft’s Mimi’s at Coogee and Berts there are servings of rock oysters for $22.00, chilled tiger prawns for $25.00 or raw fish for $35.00.

There is also a Healthy Cafe serving kale bowls and a coffee shop serving paninis.

Merivale Group Operations Manager for Stadiums Debbie Higgins said they want to offer customers a range of price points and food diversity.

“We know that our customers expect a world class, high quality experience, whether that be while dining in one of our restaurants or enjoying a snack at a sporting match,” Ms Higgins said.

“It was important to us to ensure we provided an option for everyone on our stadium menu, from The Pavilion’s seafood to Jimmy’s wraps.”

It seems to have worked with many customers coming back for seconds and thirds.

“Vinnie’s Pizza was a hit, especially the margherita pizza and the chicken tenders,” said Higgins.

Merivale will provide all catering and beverage services at both venues for an initial term of nearly six years until September 2027.

“This is an incredible and truly unique opportunity for Merivale; we are humbled to be a part of Sydney’s sporting and entertainment history” said Justin Hemmes.

The Merivale and Venues NSW partnership was launched at an exclusive party on the grounds of the SCG, where celebrities like Erin Molan, David “Hughesy” Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Deborah Knight were in attendance.

The pub baron beat bids from familiar names - including Bourke Street Bakery, Flying Fish and Chips and a bidder with links to Matt Moran - to land the deal to supply the SCG and Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) when it opens in 2022.
