Jess Mauboy and Amy Shark are leading the charge to get NSW’s show back on the road.
The songstresses are joining the likes of Baker Boy, Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins and Peking Duk, as the first artists in the line-up for the 2022 Great Southern Nights concert series announced for March and April.
It is part of a mammoth reboot for live music and the hospitality industry led by the NSW Government after both sectors were decimated by the global pandemic.
“It has been such a tough year for live music, we need all the help we can get and this is such a great initiative,” Shark told The Daily Telegraph. “I just can’t wait for us all to be back together doing what we love.”
The inaugural Great Southern Nights was held at the end of 2020, with over 1100 gigs played across more than 300 venues. Some 75,000 tickets were sold with similar predictions for next year.
Supported by ARIA and Destination NSW, the initiative aims to get big name artists performing in regional areas as well as bigger cities.
“Great Southern Nights celebrates the very essence of live music in Australia — it’s about getting artists on stages, gigs in venues, and audiences back enjoying performances by our talented creatives right across the state,” NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said.
