Jessica Mauboy says she feels liberated after jumping ship from Sony Music and knows she has “more magic to give”.

With her former label and CEO Denis Handlin embroiled in an ongoing workplace scandal, the celebrated pop star is embracing life at her new label, Warner, and on Friday releases her first single since the signing, Glow.

“There is a huge liberation,” Mauboy told The Daily Telegraph.

“I feel like I was just comfortable. I had everything set out, the schedule was premade.

“I am now dictating that myself, which is so liberating.

“My mind has grown, my body has grown, I know I am capable.

“I have more magic and more things to give. Believing in myself was key.”

Mauboy, 32, shocked the industry in December when she parted ways with Sony Music, the label she had been with since placing runner-up on Australian Idol in 2006.

Her new single, Glow, represents that transition, with Mauboy taking on a new look and disco sound on the track, which she co-wrote with George Maple and Cosmos Midnight.

“I am literally entering a whole new world that I have been dying to go and see,” the Voice Australia coach said.

“I didn’t realise that there was a whole other world of people that I could explore with.

“I feel like I’ve been trying for the last 15 years in music, going so hard that I really wanted to experiment in a way that I could sit with a microphone in a broken-down studio and just see whatever came naturally.”

“That was the most fun that I’ve ever had in music, I didn’t have to try.”

Glow is a fun, anthemic, dance track that delivers a deeper message.

“I feel incredibly proud with what I have achieved in my career to date and how it has shaped me into the woman I am today,” Mauboy said.

“It’s my confidence song, it’s my reminder that I am where I need to be and to never stop creating and believing in myself in everything I do.”
