Jesinta, Buddy Franklin’s rumoured QLD move could have consequences

The genetically blessed Franklin family looks to be bidding Sydney goodbye, but the move may cost them at their hip pocket in the long run, industry experts have claimed.

Buddy and Jesinta Franklin’s move to Queensland is going to be detrimental to their careers and long-term earnings, according to industry experts.

It was revealed this week Lance “Buddy” Franklin will likely leave the Sydney Swans, where he has played for nine years on a $10 million contact, and sign with a Queensland AFL club. Franklin is reportedly chasing a figure in the vicinity of $700,000 a season, with the Swans’ offer reportedly at $500,000.

The rumoured move to the Sunshine State comes as the couple recently ditched their agents, instead asking close friend and former teacher Adam Finch to do their negotiations.

Jesinta is also in the process of becoming an accredited player agent with the AFL and is believed to be helping with negotiations.

However, top Sydney agents believe the move will hinder both of their careers long term. “The influencer world is centred around Sydney,” one insider said. “You have to be committed to flying to Sydney and attending events. Maybe Jesinta will be.”

Another agent agrees the couple might well be frequent flyers to Melbourne and Sydney.

“Most of the on-the-ground work is conducted in Sydney and Melbourne,” he said.
