Were it not for the virus that has disrupted life around the globe we would have been just a week away from the Royal Adelaide Show.
The anticipation would have been rising as children around the state counted out their savings one more time and calculated just how many showbags they would be able to buy and farmers and graziers finalised their plans for transporting their livestock to the big smoke.
In kitchens from Mt Gambier to Ceduna, talented cooks should be putting the final touches on their ribbon-winning recipes.
The cancellation of the Show is heartbreaking for the wider South Australian community. It is our favourite event and has been for generations.
However we know it will be back, bigger and better than ever, as soon as we emerge from the pandemic and life returns to normal.
In the meantime, enjoy these images from over the years that capture all the fun and excitement of Wayville during the best nine days of the year.
