‘In love with every version of her’: Sunrise presenter Sam Mac’s romantic marriage proposal to partner Rebecca James

A former Adelaide TV host has popped the big question to his partner, revealing details of the romantic proposal and the engagement ring.

Adelaide’s Sam Mac has fulfilled his “secret” New Year’s resolution by becoming engaged to partner Rebecca James.

The Sunrise weather presenter shared the happy news on social media on Saturday, posting a photo of the couple after the proposal.

“Ladies & gentlemen, my fiancee!,” he captioned the snap, which featured James’s new large diamond ring.

“My secret 2023 New Year’s resolution was to propose to my darling Rebecca sometime this year …. So I guess this is what you’d call a ‘buzzer beater’.

Mac revealed he popped the big question in front of James’s parents and her brother, adding there were “tears and laughter”.

“I told her I’m in love with every version of her & asked her to be mine forever, she said yes,” he wrote.

“She’s calm, strong & unintentionally funny. She’s super smart & a genuine knockout beauty. She makes me a better man.

“It’s only been 8 hours but I’ve already referred to her as “MY FIANCEE” 74 times. It’s loud, proud, & borderline obnoxious, but it feels right.

“Thank you @rebeccajames_stylist for bringing the magic to my life, now let’s plan a wedding.”

Mac and James, a fashion stylist, welcomed their first daughter, Margot Grace McMillan, on September 11, last year.

Sydney-based Mac, who got his start on Adelaide radio more than a decade ago, has been dating James for about three years, starting out as good friends before developing a relationship.

“She makes me so happy & I’m absolutely delighted to share her with you guys,” he wrote on social media at the time.
