Hugh Sheridan has covered a lot of ground since making bold revelations about his sexuality.
Quietly bisexual and out only to close friends until recently, the ex-Packed To The Rafters star seems to be embracing his new-found public profile as a flag-bearer for the GLBTQI community since coming out in Stellar magazine last month.
Stripping down to just a towel this week, Sheridan laid a major thirst trap for his male and female admirers alike on Instagram under the guise of showing his support for the Democratic Party in the US.
A sometime resident of the US (Sheridan’s pet dog is allegedly still stranded there with a friend), the actor made it clear he was very much in the blue camp with the hashtag #myhomesweethome.
And on Friday the performer revealed he had snared the lead in the cult queer musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which is set to open at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre in January.
Sheridan will play Hedwig — a “slip of a girly boy from East Berlin who was subjected to a botched sex change” in the famed production.
In a major coup for the show, iconic costume designer Arianne Phillips — who oversaw wigs and costumes for the Broadway production starring Neil Patrick Harris — has signed on for the Aussie version.
Sheridan, 35, revealed in Stellar he was advised early in his career to hide his sexuality in order to stay employed.
“The way it was explained to me was that women wouldn’t want to pay to see a movie or TV show if they knew they couldn’t have sex with the leading man,” he said.
