Chet Faker – aka Nick Murphy – has urged music fans to get out and support local venues and artists ahead of this weekend’s Harvest Rock festival.

The singer-songwriter says struggling small-to-medium live music venues are “essential” to the development of the next generation of Australian talent.

“Sure, if you want to spend $1000 going to see Taylor Swift that’s good, but don’t complain when you haven’t heard any new good music or your friends in a band can’t afford to play,” said Faker.

“People just need to support the venues and the artists they care about. No one else is going to do it.”

Faker will be joined at Harvest Rock, in Adelaide’s Rymill and King Rodney parks, by a host of big names including international headliners Jamiroquai and Beck.

Top Australian acts include Paul Kelly, Flight Facilities, Tash Sultana and Adelaide rockers Bad//Dreems.

“The line-up is insane, I can’t believe it,” said Faker, who’s playing his first run of headline Australian shows since 2015.

“I’ve got friends in Melbourne, who are like, ‘F*** that’s crazy, I might fly out for it. What’s going on, why has Adelaide got this amazing line-up’.

“The fact it’s even been a point of conversation says a lot about Harvest Rock and the work put into the festival.”
