Ben James, the man behind the popular character, took to Carla’s Instagram to share an ugly exchange with Wollongong “stand-up comedian” Jarrod Berwick.

The incident started with Berwick direct messaging Carla.

“Your a f***ing joke f***ing fat dude in a wig f*** me how do people like you wake up in the morning wtf is wrong with you,” Berwick wrote.

James responded by sharing a screenshot of the message with the words: “i love my fans”.

He then corrected Berwick’s spelling from your to you’re.

“aren’t you a stand up comedian,” James responded as Carla. “lol you’re not very funny”.
The exchange continued with Berwick responding: “Your definitely not I just hate people like you no way funny. F***ing disgrace. And then try label yourself a comedian pfft fat dude in makeup. Just give up.”

James again corrected Berwick, stating that his performance is drag.

“No fat dude in makeup,” Berwick continued. “Just a joke f***off the comedy scene.”

Berwick did not respond when Confidential contacted him directly.

James meanwhile said he spoke up because others don’t have the strength to use their voice with online bullying.

“I’m lucky that I have a thick skin to deal with gronks like this,” James told Confidential. “There are a lot of people out there that might not have the same confidence to fight back at the online trolls. This is why I call them out.”

James continued: “For so long I’ve always just ignored what people say to me if it’s hurtful, but it’s 2022 and these people should be accountable for the hurtful things they say to others.”

James said he had been bullied “for most of my life”.

Carla from Bankstown, has hit back at Jarrod Berwick.

“I want to take a stand for the people who can’t fight back or don’t have the confidence to call these gronks out,” he said.

“We should be bringing each other up, we have all been through so much in the last two years. We should be coming together and spreading kindness and love. If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say a damn thing.”

Carla from Bankstown exploded on social media with her own Covid press conferences rivalling those of former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian at the height of the lockdowns.
