A new era of Married At First Sight is almost upon us.
The first trailer of the Channel 9 ratings bonanza dropped over the weekend, promising the explosive and tear-filled scenes we’ve come to expect of the controversial social experiment.
Set in dramatic black and white, the teaser begins with solemn contestants looking into the camera as they prepare to meet their matches, with, “The phenomenon of love is back,” flashing across the screen.
Bride Bronte Schofield – who some fans have likened to season 6 bride Ines Basic – is the first cast member seen in the promo, before snippets from fellow brides in their dresses roll.
Janelle Han, Claire Nomarhas, Sandy Jawanda and Alyssa Barmonde all feature in their wedding gowns, while grooms Duncan James, Shannon Adams and Ollie Skelton are seen looking dapper in their tuxedos.
True to form, the contestants are later seen breaking down in tears in flashes of footage from the season, with one of the show’s infamous dinner parties eliciting shock from expert Mel Schilling, who exclaims, “Wow!”
The 2023 season of MAFS stars businesswoman Melinda Willis, CEO Layton Mills, and beauty content creator Janelle Han.
Public relations manager Tahnee Cook, voiceover artist Ollie Skelton, tradie Cam Woods, make-up artist Caitlin McConville and accountant Lyndall Grace will also appear, along with beauty business owner Bronte Schofield, and construction worker Harrison Boon, who also works as an adult entertainer.
Fans of the series have praised the diversity of the cast on Instagram, with one viewer posting, “Finally some different cultures in MAFS.”
Others are already anticipating more of the headline-grabbing hijinks that the series has become known for.
“Here we go again. What scheme do they have in place this year?” one person wrote.
“Whose lives are you going to destroy next year?” said another.
Meanwhile, ex-contestants Domenica Calarco and Daniel Holmes jumped in the comments section to express their excitement.
“Woohoo,” wrote Dom, while Daniel added, “Keeeeen!”
