Golden Globes
Don't miss out on the headlines from Golden Globes. Followed categories will be added to My News.
With festive season over and the New Year here, awards season has kicked off today with the glitz and glamour of the 77th Golden Globes.
And after a savage introduction by the ever-caustic Ricky Gervais, in which he joked several times that given it would be his “last awards ceremony”, he would not be holding back, it was time for the gongs to be handed out.
Russell Crowe was the first Aussie to land a Globe for his role as disgraced Fox News CEO Roger Ailes in Netflix’s The Loudest Voice, with the actor absent from the ceremony in the wake of his Coffs Harbour property being affected by bushfire in November.
He used his speech – read out by Jennifer Aniston – to send a powerful message about climate change.

Other winners include Stellan Skarsgård for haunting Foxtel smash hit Chernobyl, two awards dished out for HBO's Succession and two for Phoebe Waller-Bridge,who also scored four awards for Fleabag in September last year.
Ellen DeGeneres, who received this year’s Carol Burnett Award, also gave a heartwaming nod to Australia in her acceptance speech.
“My heart goes out to everyone in Australia, for all the animals you’ve lost,” the comedian and talk show host said.
Later, Tom Hanks teared up while receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in film, and the gong of the night, Best Motion Picture, went to World War I epic 1917, out in Australian cinemas on Thursday.
