A trust related to adman John Singleton has listed the Redfern penthouse apartment of his late second wife Maggi Eckardt for sale.

Former model Eckardt died at the age of 82 earlier this year. Singleton went on to marry another four times after their split.

On Saturday, Sunday Confidential stopped by the open home for the elegant three-bedroom, two-bathroom plus study top-floor apartment on Chalmers St’s Moreton On The Park complex that Eckardt called home for many years.

Bresic Whitney is managing the campaign with a price guide of $2.185 million but a recent sale of a comparative property in the same block achieved $2.4 million.

The property was bought by a company named Temten in 2007 for $1.28 million.

Singleton is a current director of the company while Eckardt was listed as a director from 2003 through to July this year.

Singleton and Eckardt met in 1972 when she returned to Australia from a hugely successful modelling career abroad and she interviewed him for a TV special.

They were together for nine years between 1972 and 1981, and were married in 1976.

“It got to a use-by-date,” Eckardt said of the relationship in a 2002 Fairfax article. “My marriage to John was a wonderful part of my life, but life goes on.”

Sydney-born Margrette “Maggi” Eckardt is regarded as one of our first internationally successful models.

She appeared on the cover of French Vogue and worked with the likes of Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and royal couturier Norman Hartnell.

It was Hartnell who gave Eckardt her big break when, on a trip to Sydney, he promised her a job in London if she could pay her way there.

“I sailed out of Sydney Harbour with a big suitcase of homemade clothes, with no contract and no money and a one-way ticket … so that was determination,” she said.
