Comedian Dave Hughes has revealed his most embarrassing moment.

The 2 Day FM breakfast radio host has detailed the time he was caught by his mum for spending $200 a week on frequenting a brothel.

It was in the mid-90s and he was in his 20s.

“I was single and I was broke and my car shat itself right and I rang my mum and said, ‘Mum, I need money’,” Hughes told listeners.

“She is like, ‘You dropped out of uni, you are useless, we are going to be giving you money for the rest of your life’. And I am like, ‘No, I have a comedy dream but to get to the gigs I need a car so I need my car to be fixed’.”

The now 51-year-old, who is married with three children, was living in the city while his parents were at their family home in the country.

When his mum agreed to lend him money one last time, he couldn’t remember his bank details but his statements were still being delivered to the family address.

“I get a phone call back about half an hour later,” he recalled.

“She (mum) said, ‘I’ve looked at your bank statement’ and she said I keep spending $200 at this bistro. ‘Why are you spending money at this bistro?’”

Hughes responded: “You don’t want to know. I said ‘Mum, it is a brothel’.”

The story prompted many questions from co-hosts Erin Molan and Ed Kavalee.

While Kavalee joked about the “all you can eat” offerings at the “late night” bistro, Molan was surprised at the cost.

“Two hundred bucks, is that all it costs?” she questioned.

“What do you get? wait sorry, as a girl who is naive, can I just understand? So you go into a place and you pay money.

“Is this normal though? Do blokes do this normally though? This is so confronting. Would anyone I have been with have done it?”

Responding, Hughes said: “My mum said, why are you doing that?”

“I said, ‘I don’t know Mum, I can’t find a girlfriend.”
