Pop icon Dannii Minogue has made a cheeky suggestion that she “identifies as queer” when asked if she finds women attractive.
The comments were made while the 52-year-old Australian launched a new gay dating show I Kissed a Girl, which will see 10 single women live together in a luxury Italian house.
The star, who last year fronted the award-winning BBC3 series I Kissed a Boy, said it was “surreal” that there hadn’t been a dating series for lesbian and bisexual women in the UK until 2024.
“This is so important. There hasn’t been a show for the girls in the reality gay dating world,” Minogue said.
“It’s like we need this to happen. I’m hoping that there are parties up and down the country.”
The presenter addressed her sexuality after the girls in the first episode made it clear they fancy the Australian star.
When Minogue was asked if she too is attracted to women, she said: “I identify as queer in a weird way.
“You girls are hot. You know it. I love it. I’m here for it.”
Speaking at the red carpet launch, Minogue said she hopes the new series will go on to win awards, after losing a handful of fans when she began hosting I Kissed A Boy.
“I want this to go well, obviously. Everybody’s put everything on the line. I hope there are more series of this show, and more girls get the opportunity to have this experience,” she said.
“You girls are so brave and amazing and have brought so much to it. I could never do what you have done. I will always be in awe of what has happened and what we’ve created.
“I feel so proud. You’re stepping forward, and you’re the first crew of girls representing in this space, and it is big.”
The first episode of I Kissed a Girl airs on May 5 on BBC.
