Crows champion Taylor Walker will have an expanded role on Triple M radio’s AFL commentary team this year.
The network rolled out its line-up for the new footy season on Thursday, with big names such as Mark Ricciuto, Erin Phillips, Chris Dittmar, Bernie Vince and Dom Cassisi among the local experts covering Crows and Port Adelaide matches.
Triple M has also confirmed that Walker, 34, will join the broadcast team and provide special comments on select matches throughout the season, subject to his availability.
He’s been a regular fixture on Triple M Adelaide’s breakfast show but this is the strongest indication yet that he’s likely to embark on a media career post-football.
Walker, who’s played 278 games for the Crows and kicked 641 goals, is about to begin on his 17th season with Adelaide.
SCA Head of Sports Content, Ewan Giles, said the man known as Tex was a “beloved figure” in SA.
“It’ll be great to have him on commentary around his Crows commitments,” Mr Giles said.
“He’s (a) must-listen on Triple M Breakfast Roo, Ditts & Loz and his game commentary on Triple M Footy thus far has been exceptional.”
The news comes as Walker’s former Crows teammate, Rory Sloane, made his debut on Channel 9’s Footy Classified this week.
Nationally, Triple M’s commentary line-up includes familiar names such as James Brayshaw, Kate McCarthy, Brian Taylor, Nathan Brown, Dale ‘Daisy’ Thomas and Jason Dunstall plus South Australians Abbey Holmes and Shaun Burgoyne.
Saints legend Nick Riewoldt has also joined the team as a special commentator.
“Triple M and AFL go hand-in-hand. No one delivers the game like Triple M – every tackle, every goal, and every big moment, all with the energy and banter that fans love,” Mr Giles said.
