Star Adelaide Crows ruckman Reilly O’Brien has posed with political commentator Jordan Peterson after the polarising figure’s Adelaide show.
O’Brien shared a photo of himself and Peterson on Thursday, captioning the post, “A great man.”
Many of O’Brien’s Crows teammates commented on the post, including Tom Doedee, Ned McHenry, Mitch Hinge and Lachie Murphy.
“Elite,” McHenry wrote, while former Crow Cam Ellis-Yolmen, who has returned to the SANFL after failing to meet the AFL’s Covid vaccination mandate earlier this year, said, “So jealous! Coupla Great Men”.
Peterson’s rise to fame came in the mid-2010s, when he began uploading lectures and appearances to YouTube criticising the “modern left” and drawing parallels between current-day political tactics and those employed by 20th century Marxists.
The 60-year-old, who is a self-proclaimed anti-feminist and has regularly courted controversy over his “neoliberal” political views, is often met with backlash and protesters at events, who describe him as a “pseudo intellectual”.
In June, Peterson was banned from Twitter after posting comments about transgender athletes and women.
But the Canadian says his detractors are “ideologues” who are too afraid to meet him in a debate, “resorting to insults and misappropriation of his views in an effort to de-platform him”.
Peterson is holding seven shows Down Under as part of his Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life tour – a sequel to his successful 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos tour in 2019.
He recently addressed a number of federal politicians, including former prime minister Scott Morrison and senator Pauline Hanson, as part of his current speaking tour.
The 60-year-old said he discussed a “renewed classic liberal/conservative vision” with the former Aussie PM, in a Twitter post on his now-unbanned account.

Peterson recently teed off at Qantas for the inclusion of an Indigenous acknowledgement of country in its in-flight service, labelling the airline’s cultural inclusion “propaganda”.
“I could really do without the land acknowledgment propaganda delivered to me by a corporate behemoth @Qantas,” he tweeted.
“I‘m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. Stick to (1) flying and (2) making money. I don’t want or need moral lessons from you or any other corporation.”
In response to the criticism, Qantas said the acknowledgment of country was a critical part of its reconciliation vision and hopes of a shared national identity.
“We acknowledge the continued systemic challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” Qantas said.
