Beloved pop band Crowded House is returning to Adelaide for the first time in more than a decade as party jazz favourites Cat Empire are revealed for Womad.
With a new line-up featuring longstanding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour with Mitchell Froom on keyboards and Neil’s sons Liam and Elroy on guitars and drums, Crowded House will play the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on April 5.
Best known for classics such as Four Seasons in One Day, Weather With You, Distant Sun and Don’t Dream It’s Over, the Aussie-Kiwi outfit will also be showcasing songs from its ARIA Award-winning new record Dreamers Are Waiting.
Special guests at the Adelaide show will be Aussie act and favourite of Sir Elton John, The Middle Kids, fresh from picking up the Best Rock Album gong at the ARIAs.
The Womadelaide stalwarts Cat Empire head a list of new announcements for the March festival that includes incendiary hip-hop outfit A.B. Original, Kiwi reggae act L.A.B. and Cairo-born ARIA-Award winning composer and oud master Joseph Tawadros AM who will perform with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
Adding some international flavour to the largely Australasian line-up for the 30th anniversary show will be Brazilian jazz legends Azymuth and Marcos Valle, Mississippi blues artist Cedric Burnside, Grammy-winning Guatemala-born folk singer Gaby Moreno and Scottish trad-electronic band Elephant Sessions.
“Expanding our 30th anniversary line-up with the calibre of artists we are announcing today is hugely exciting,” Womadelaide director Ian Scobie said.
“The diversity of our 2022 line-up and celebrating predominantly Australian artists is exceptional, from Asteroid Ekosystem featuring Ed Kuepper, Lloyd Swanton and Alistair Spence, Australian hip hop royalty A.B. Original, Farhan Shah and Sufi-Oz and DJ Floating Points, exemplifies the mix of diversity and discovery our audiences have come to love and expect at Womadelaide.”
Tickets for all shows go on sale at 12pm on Friday, December 10, through livenation.com.au.
