Having “lucked out” with a dream pregnancy, Turia Pitt is counting down the days until the birth of her second child.
The motivational speaker and author is already mum to a two-year-old son, Hakavai, and is due to have her second baby over the next few weeks.
“I think I’ve had it pretty good, it has been pretty straight forward and easy,” she said of the pregnancy.
“I feel good. It is a bit different this second time around because I’ve got a toddler to look after. I have enjoyed it. I think it is beautiful.”
Pitt, 32, spoke to Confidential as the face of the 2020 Bonds Baby Search, which has added a category for expectant mums this year, Wonders on the Way.
Motherhood, she said, had “made me a lot softer”.
“It has made me a lot more compassionate, more caring, more selfless and more conscious of the fact that I have someone else in the world that takes priority over me,” said Pitt, who suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body when caught in a grassfire while competing in an ultra-marathon in WA in 2011.
“I have enjoyed how it has changed me.”
Pitt is based in Mollymook, not far from many of the communities devastated by bushfires over recent months.
Keen to do her bit, she set up the Spend With Them Instagram account to encourage Australians to help rebuild towns and businesses affected by the fires.
The account has amassed nearly 200,000 followers since launching earlier this month.
“For the most part people are happy to return back to a little bit of normality and I think that is just a testament to the Australian spirit really,” she said.
“The idea behind the campaign was, I guess, if you live like on the Gold Coast, you could jump on the Instagram page and buy a bottle of gin from a distillery down in Eden and then you are putting money directly into the pockets of people who really need it.
“It has been really heartwarming to see how many Australians and people all over the world have jumped on board by spending their money on those small businesses.”
