Tahlia Giumelli says motherhood is a ‘wakeup call’ after welcoming first baby with Tom Burgess

Just a day before hopping on a plane with her baby to reunite her partner Tom Burgess with his 3-month-old daughter, model Tahlia Giumelli has spoken candidly about how motherhood has been “a wakeup call”.

With her boyfriend Tom Burgess playing rugby league overseas, Tahlia Giumelli is juggling their newborn daughter, Sophie Heather, on top of work commitments.

She told Confidential that first-time motherhood has been a huge “wakeup call” but she’s taking it all in her stride.

“It’s a big wakeup call, obviously it’s such a different life that you had before but it’s a learning curve,” she said at the Bras N Things Enchanted launch.Tahlia on Wednesday.

“Every day is a learning curve, you make it up as you go but we love having her around. It changes your life but it changes you for the better. I wouldn’t have it any other way now.”

“(Sleep) isn’t too bad but the more that she sleeps the less I sleep because I’m too busy looking at her sleeping making sure she’s OK.”

Burgess, 27, is in New Zealand playing for Great Britain but is set to reunite with Giumelli, 25, and their 12-week-old bub.

“It’s been two-and-a-half weeks and we have another two-and-a-half to go. We’re flying over tomorrow to see him for a few days because he’s really missing her,” Giumelli said.

“It’s an amazing period because she’s just starting to laugh and smile, I know it’s really driving him insane so when we get back we’re going on a little family holiday just the three of us to Fiji.”

The couple have been together for three years and are not in any rush to get engaged.

They hope to eventually have more children, as the model said they both want a big family.

“I think we made the biggest commitment and that was having a child together and (getting married) is obviously going to happen along the way but we’re not in any rush. At the moment we’re just focusing our attention on Sophie at the moment,” she said.

“Yeah definitely, obviously Tom comes from a big family and I’ve got two sisters so having a big family for ourselves is something we’re really looking forward to and the chaos that comes with children – but we’ll take our time.”

While becoming parents has been an exciting time for the couple, it’s been a bittersweet time for them following recent news of Burgess’ brother Sam’s separation from Phoebe.

“Look that’s something I’m not going to comment on. That’s a private matter for them and the only relationship I can comment on is mine with Tom,” Giumelli said.
