Sunrise co-host David Koch was left red-faced on Wednesday morning after an eyebrow-raising double entendre.
Pregnant news presenter Edwina Bartholomew was discussing rapper Nicki Minaj’s bizarre claim that the Covid vaccine made her cousin’s friend impotent and things took an awkward turn when Koch weighed in.
“I feel really sorry for the cousin’s friend in Trinidad who clearly has swollen balls and a cancelled wedding and it has nothing to do with Covid,” Bartholomew said.
Koch replied, “I’m uncomfortable with you using the term balls [inaudible]...coming out of your mouth.”
His comments drew gasps and laughter from the panel, including co-host Natalie Barr and sports presenter Mark Beretta.
“Just have a think about what you just said,” Bartholomew giggled while covering her face.
Visibly embarrassed, Koch quickly tried to clarify what he meant saying, “The word, the WORD coming out of her mouth. God, come on!”
The awkward exchange was in response to Minaj’s recent tweets about Covid-19 vaccines.
The rapper has been widely condemned by politicians and health officials for spreading Covid misinformation.
It all began on Monday, when she announced she would not be attending the Met Gala due to host Anna Wintour’s vaccine mandate requiring all attendees to show proof of vaccination.

“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head [and] face. Not that loose one,” Minaj tweeted to her 22 million followers.
My cousin in Trinidad wonât get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure youâre comfortable with ur decision, not bullied

She later wrote, “My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz [sic] his friend got it [and] became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it [and] make sure you’re comfortable with ur [sic] decision, not bullied.”

Her tweets drew widespread criticism from many including NSW Health and UK prime minister Boris Johnson.
“We promise to leave the rapping to @NICKIMINAJ if she leaves medicine to doctors and scientists,” NSW Health tweeted.
