South Australia’s first metropolitan female firefighter Adrienne Clarke hopes her appearance on the new series of The Amazing Race will encourage other women to follow in her footsteps.
Clarke and her partner of more than 30 years, alpaca farmer Chris Williams, will be among 11 teams competing on Channel 10’s new reality series, which will be hosted by former NRL star Beau Ryan.
Clarke, who joined Adelaide’s Metropolitan Fire Service in 1987, said she wants to be a role model for young women who watch the show.
“Many females do not even consider firefighting as a career for them. I would love to think I could help to change that perception, encouraging others to challenge their potential,” she said.
“Amazing Race challenges present the opportunity, showing some of the amazing skills you can acquire as a firefighter.”
Clarke and Williams, who runs the nation’s third largest alpaca herd, Ambersun Alpacas, are passionate about travel and have always dreamed of taking part in The Amazing Race.
The popular series, which features teams of two trekking across 12 countries competing for a $250,000 prize, last screened in Australia on Channel 7 in 2012 The American version of the show will air its 32nd season this year.
The Amazing Race Australia will air on Ten later this year.
