Fans of South Australian fashion house Paolo Sebastian will have a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the label’s internationally-renowned designs.

Paolo Sebastian founder Paul Vasileff will host two intimate ‘High Tea’ events at the Mayfair Hotel next month as part of the expanded Vogue Festival, unveiling new pieces as well as several gowns he showcased at Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture in July.

“It’s something that we haven’t done before. This format is a very traditional, very Parisian way of showcasing a collection,” the Adelaide designer said.

“We wanted to do something exciting on a different scale and something a bit more intimate so that people can get up close to the dresses. Often in a runway show you miss all of that.”

Vasileff said the two events, on October 19 at 12pm and 3pm, will give fans a special insight into the acclaimed couture house and his own design process.

“I think a lot of the people believe the dresses just appear and they don’t realise the work that goes on behind the scenes,” said Vasileff, who presented his East of the Sun and West of the Moon collection in Paris this year, the fourth time he’s showcased his work to international media and buyers at the renowned Haute Couture week.

“This will give the audience a little bit more background and perspective into what actually goes on and it’s a nice way to showcase the work that we do here.”

The Starlet

Following the State Government’s axing of the Adelaide Fashion Festival in May, the retail-focused Vogue Festival will now take centre stage next month. It’s been expanded from two to three days and will run from October 17 to 19, located mainly in Rundle Mall and Rundle St.

Vasileff said the Vogue Festival has become a key part of SA’s fashion calendar.

“It’s important to maintain some sort of event, some sort of excitement for the local industry and the people of Adelaide, who want to go to these types of events,” said Vasileff, who will also do a Q&A session in the city’s East End during the festival to inspire local emerging designers.

“It’s a situation we weren’t prepared for but we’re still going to present something just as beautiful and hopefully give people something to get excited about.”
