Salma Hayek speaks out on 'Harvey horror'

Hollywood actor Salma Hayek knows all too well about the challenges of having a temperamental boss.

The Like a Boss star, who plays an overbearing mogul in the blockbuster film, said she has been subjected to workplace bullying in the past and it took her some time to find her voice.

“I’ve had some horrible bosses,” she said.

“I found the strength to stand up when I saw it happen to one of my colleagues. It happens like that to a lot of us, you’re like ‘Ok I can deal with this’ but sometimes when you see it happen to someone else it’s just more infuriating.”

Hayek stars alongside Australian Rose Byrne and Tiffany Haddish in Like a Boss, which is out on Wednesday on various digital platforms.

She said it’s important to distinguish between bullying and personality clashes.

“You need to think about if you are passionate about what you’re working on together. If you love what you do and this person is a little difficult but guiding you and you’re learning and you’re proud of what you’re doing, you cut a little more slack,” she said.

“If they are rude and mediocre, stop them immediately. If you’re not learning and just being abused, stop them immediately.

“Sometimes there’s temperamental people who are geniuses and it’s not personal, they just want to get the job done. It’s not nice to be extra sensitive either. If they’re just nasty, you’ve got to stand up for yourself.”
