Next week, Rachael Finch’s first born will walk through the gates of ‘big school’ for the first time.

But the 30-year-old mum-of-two said she’s not nervous about her baby girl, Violet, 5, taking the next step.

“I kind of feel ashamed to admit it, but no I’m not nervous about her going to school,” Finch told Confidential.

“She’s very inquisitive about reading the time and learning street names and I know she needs the stimulation.”

In preparing Violet for kindergarten, Finch has tried to cover all bases.

“We have been learning how to tie our shoes, braiding our hair, learning the difference between a recess and lunch box, and, of course, stranger danger.”

Finch has also tricked Violent into using the ABC Reading Eggs App, a tool that helps improve children’s literacy.

“Violent thinks it’s a game so she wants to play because she’s getting to the next level, she’s getting the eggs, she’s progressing, which is entertaining for her but for me, I ditch that techno-guilt of giving my child technology for an extended period of time because I know it’s educational,” she said.

And while she’s both a genuine advocate and ambassador for the brand, Finch is careful not to let her daughter spent too much time on devices.

“I always like to break up the screentime with ‘greentime,’ so she can spend good quality time on the App learning and developing then go outside and do something whether it’s on the balcony or at the park or building sand castles,” she said.

“Breaking up that time is essential and knowing your child’s cue on when enough is enough.”
