The two are friends and Mertim also entered a different portrait of Manu in this year’s Archibald Prize competition.

Judges for the Kennedy Prize, which is funded by chartered accountant Robert Kennedy, said they were “impressed by the clever reference to both cooking and grooming’’.

“Despite the nearly brutal undertones it still manages to maintain an affectionate and humorous narrative.

“Its dynamic composition captures a theatrical mood that is enigmatically engaging and full of suspense.’’

Finalists’ works are on display at Fisher Jeffries, 1/19 Gouger St, city, until Saturday.
