The Bachelorette Final Episode 12 Recap: Third Time Lucky

As if he wasn’t already Australia’s most eligible bachelor, Matt Agnew has added doctor to his name.

The star of the upcoming series of The Bachelor received his paperwork last week after completing his PhD in philosophy at Swinburne University of Technology.

“I am thinking about next time I catch a flight I will put Dr so Dr Agnew can board but I am also worried if there is a medical issue on board and they come and ask me for assistance,” he joked.

Agnew, 31, is an astrophysicist who works in engineering in Melbourne.

For the record, an astrophysicist is someone “who researches the physics of space”.

“There are a lot of sub disciplines under the greater umbrella but my particular area of focus is on planetary science and trying to find another planet like Earth,” he said. “I think it is no secret that I am a nerd. I think that is a neutral characteristic really.”

I don’t think it has hindered or bolstered my chances in the romance department.

“I’ve met people who find it very interesting and others who don’t.”

Clearly smart, Agnew is looking for someone who is an “engaging conversationalist”.

“I don’t think they need to be necessarily booksmart,” he said.

“And there is not some sort of threshold of intelligence, just someone who is passionate and excited about things and wants to share it with you.”

While much of the promo has been focused on the fact Agnew is an astrophysicist by trade, he is quick to point out he has a lot of other interests.

“I like sport, reading, bingeing tele, keeping fit, baking, a lot of standard interests and hobbies,” he said.

Baking? Really?

“My friends will probably wind me up about this but I like baking banana bread,” he said.

“I love it because you can be naughty but sound like you’re not with banana bread.”
