A new movie inspired by notorious Adelaide nightclub Heaven is in the works for 2021.
Filmmaker Ralph Noga has started writing the script for his debut feature, Bouncer, about the head of security at a popular Adelaide nightspot.
The movie will be based largely on the life of Adelaide’s Wayne Mattei, a former pro wrestler who worked at the North Tce superclub for over a decade before it closed its doors in 2005 amid alleged links with SA bikie gangs.
Security guard-turned-actor Mattei said the film will be “action packed” with many real-life events featured throughout the story.
“Some of the most memorable moments are some of the most scary ones I guess, from the drive-by shootings, to the ram raid attempt into the Joplins entrance... I was there for over a decade. I saw it all, the good and the bad,” said co-executive producer Mattei, who will also star in the movie.
“Heaven was an institution. You would see the same faces each week for years. I loved every minute working there.”
From humble beginnings some 40 years ago as Bojangles, then Joplins, the venue became Heaven in 1993 and ruled Adelaide’s nightlife during the 90s.
The club re-opened as HQ Complex in 2006 before closing for the last time in February 2017.
Noga and Mattei have already teamed up for a reality TV series called MANIAC : Protector and Enforcer, about Mattei’s security business, which has looked after celebrities such as John Travolta and David Beckham.
