Life as mums on the road a different beast to starting out
More than a decade after getting their start — and now all mums with young kids — life on the road for The McClymonts is easier and richer now than it ever was.

With five kids between them and another on the way, touring is surprisingly more enjoyable as mums for The McClymonts than it was when they first got together.
Despite having more responsibilities these days, multiple ARIA Award winning sisters Brooke, Sam and Mollie say they appreciate their achievements all the more thanks to having young families at home.
“You appreciate being out on the road a little more,” Mollie told Confidential. “We appreciate our time more now. We've got the best of both worlds. We really do appreciate the music even more because we have a family and can still go out and do what we love with music. Music allows us to go out and tour.”
Preparing to record their sixth studio album, The McClymonts released their debut album Chaos & Bright Lights in 2006.
They’ve amassed a haul of 13 Golden Guitar Awards since then and travelled the globe.
Their national One Acoustic Night tour kicks off in Grafton on October 31 and they play the Gympie Muster next weekend.
“It is the same, we’ve just added five-and-a-half children to the mix and life is just about being a little bit more organised,” said Brooke, who is pregnant with her second child and is already mum to six-year-old Tiggy. “We need a lot more lead-up time to be prepared.”
Sam is mum to six-month-old Ari and two-year-old Wilder while Mollie has Ned, three, and Elky, one.
The trio will soon begin recording their sixth album with the aim of releasing next year.
“It was meant to be this year but then I had a baby,” Sam said. “It will be very reflective of where we are at the moment.
“You aren’t going to hear any breakup songs because we are all in love. We really do write from what we experience.”
Brooke added: “I appreciate it all so much more now. Before we had the kids we just worked, worked worked and there was no time for family or our personal lives.
“We thought you had to tour every day of the week to become something and what we realised was we weren’t allowing ourselves to live life to be able to write songs. And we fought more then, now we don’t at all.”
