Rose Adam’s cool about leaving MasterChef because she’s getting fired up to see a fellow South Aussie win.
Eliminated from the cooking competition last night, Rose, main picture, says she expects to see Poh Ling Yeow, Callum Hann, Laura Sharrad or Tracy Collins do us proud.
“They’re so well crafted in their techniques and understanding and knowledge of food that they all have what it takes,” she tells Confidential.
That said, when asked to single out one of the fab four, Rose doesn’t hesitate in naming Poh, inset: “She’s my bestie – I really want her to win.”
Asked about all that kindness in the kitchen, where MasterChef contestants constantly have one another’s backs, Rose says: “You’re not competing against each other – you’re competing against yourself. You want to cook a better dish than you did the day before.”
Returning to MasterChef to take part in the Back To Win contest was also “super weird” for Rose, who was a contestant in series seven. “I had forgotten what it’s like,” she says. “There’s so much energy and creativity and a vibe you don’t get anywhere else – not even on your busiest lunch or dinner service.”
Back at her Melrose Park cafe, The Middle Store, Rose is heartened by the support her loyal customers have shown during COVID-19.
“When you have a business, you never want to have to make (big) changes on the fly,” she says of transforming the eatery into a “completely contactless” takeaway venue.
“We have had phenomenal community support here and we really want to be here after this is over.”
As for whether Rose would ever compete on MasterChef again, she shakes her head: “I’m done.
“You don’t often get the chance to have another crack and I feel I’ve taken care of the unfinished business I had … so, I’m good!”
