It turned out to be a nice day for a Way wedding as new House Rules host Abbey Gelmi tied the knot with Sky Racing presenter Ben Way in the Adelaide Hills.
After a few showers in the morning, the skies cleared and the Sydney-based couple exchanged vows at Lot 100 in front of a star-studded guest list.
“It was absolutely perfect. As someone who’s always dreamed of this day and what it would be like, it was just so much more than that,” says Seven cricket presenter Gelmi, who wore a gown by top bridal design house Pallas Couture and Christian Louboutin heels.
“We had a little bit of rain in the morning but we had this beautiful, very South Australian sunset for us in the afternoon, it was gorgeous.
“Walking down the aisle and seeing him at the end waiting for me was just something I’ll never forget.”
Seven presenter Matt Doran, who was the event MC, brought along his new girlfriend Kendall Bora, the ex of I’m A Celebrity host Dr Chris Brown.
A former Ten Adelaide journo, Doran is the new Weekend Sunrise co-host, the chief rival of Weekend Today, of which Bora is executive producer.
Other notable guests included singer Rob Mills and ABC presenter Georgie Tunny, former Miss Universe Australia Renae Ayris, retired Swans star Kieren Jack and Home And Away actress Sam Frost with her beau Dave Bashford.
Gelmi and Adelaide-born Way wrote their own vows for Friday’s nuptials and she admitted to getting a little emotional.
“I got quite choked up, I didn’t realise how much it would hit me,” she said.
“You think when you’re used to speaking in front of a lot of people, you might hold up better than others but that wasn’t the case. He just means so much to me and to have this moment to celebrate with our family and friends was really special.”
There’s no rest for the happy couple, with Gelmi, who was recently named House Rules’ new co-host alongside Jamie Durie, heading back to Sydney tomorrow to shoot Seven’s renovation show.
“I’m super stoked with the new gig, it’s a really huge opportunity,” says Gelmi.
“It’s obviously a really busy time at the moment but we’re hopefully going to honeymoon in Europe sometime next year.”
