It’s been a bright, bold and colourful addition to the corner of Hindley and Morphett streets since it was unveiled in February but could Adelaide already be saying ”see-ya” to this giant Sia Furler-inspired mural?
Jasmine Crisp’s artwork on the wall of the Rockford Hotel is set to be altered over coming months to look a little less like the famous Adelaide-born singer and songwriter, who is known for hiding her face behind wigs.
But there is a cloud of mystery as to exactly why.
Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor told local radio: “Once the mural was started, it was seen and talked about as if it was a mural of Sia which was never the artist’s intention. This was a portrait inspired by Sia.”
But the suggestion is that orders might have come from afar, with Sia and her management rumoured to be unhappy with the finished product.
Crisp was tight-lipped, directing all inquires to the council.
Furler’s LA-based manager David Russell did not respond to a request for comment.
