There will be tears and tantrums as eleven teams battle it out for $250,000 on the new season of The Amazing Race.
Newlyweds Tim, 29, and Rod, 28, from NSW told Confidential that there were personality clashes among what has been described as the most diverse group of contestants ever.
“I think we got on really well with most of the teams. There was a bit of a personality clash with one of the teams, we just can’t stand cockiness and arrogance. That’s our pet hate,” said Rod.
“The show sees everyone at their worst. It’s so stressful, high pressure and you tend to take it out on the person closest to you. There was a fair bit of bickering from mostly other teams, we had our moments too.”
The certified personal trainers said despite all the drama, competing on the show was a great opportunity to break down stereotypes.
“We’d never seen anyone like us on reality TV before. We’re literally just two best mates who fell in love,” said Rod.
“We love our flamboyantly gay friends and all the rest of it but that’s not us and that’s what we went on there to show — that it doesn’t matter who you are as a person — just to be 100% authentically yourself and if we can get one person to think that way … and for [people] to learn to love themselves then we’ve won already.”
The Channel 10 game show returns to TV screens this month, five years after it was scrapped by Channel 7.
The new series will see teams of two compete in gruelling tasks around the world for a chance to win the cash prize.
Host Beau Ryan said the new season will be better than ever.
“What makes this show unique is the fact that anyone can take part in the race and anyone can win,” he said.
“It’s not just about being the fastest or the fittest in the group, it takes a lot of brain power and a lot of patience to make it to the end. Also, the fact that none of the contestants ever know which country they’ll wake up in each day! The show is all about inclusion which I love.”
Other contestants include siblings Viv, 25, and Joey, 28, of Victoria; Queensland sisters Hayley, 29, and Mikayla, 24; Indigenous couple Jerome and Jasmin, both 30, from the Northern Territory; brother and sister duo Alana, 21, and Niko, 19, from South Australia; nurses Nick, 23, and Femi, 23, from NSW; influencers Sid, 26, and Ash, 30, also from NSW; South Australian farmer Chris, 58, and his partner Adrienne, 59; NSW mother-daughter duo Rowah, 42, and Amani, 18; ACT nuns, Judy, 53, and Therese, 45; and Victorian footy mates Tom, 23, and Tyler, 23.
The Amazing Race Australia will premiere on Monday, October 28 at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
