AFLW star Erin Phillips has announced the birth of her son, Drew Chayce Phillips, in a sweet message posted to her 60,000 followers on Instagram.

“Welcome to the world beautiful boy!” she wrote.

Drew was born on July 31 in the United States — where Phillips and Gahan live during the AFLW off-season where Phillips works as a coach with the Dallas Wings in the WNBA.

He was born weighing 4.25kg (nine pounds, six ounces) and 53cm in length.

Phillips and her wife Tracy Gahan announced they were expecting their third child in February and Drew is now the younger brother to the couple’s two-year-old twins Blake and Brooklyn.

Phillips spoke exclusively to The Advertiser last week in the lead-up to her son’s birth saying she was looking forward to adding another baby into her family.

“We’re just excited, we can’t wait to meet him or her, we don’t know the sex,” she said last week.

“And we’ve been getting the twins ready to understand there’s going to be a new baby in the family.

“It’s exciting, it feels a bit unreal because Tracy and I have been so busy, so flat out with the twins … when it comes, it’s going to be really special.”

Phillips has also been busy on the road to recovery after she tore her anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee on March 31 during the Crows’ 45-point win over Carlton in the AFLW grand final at Adelaide Oval.

She’s doing a lot of her rehab — with the aim of coming back to play football again — at the Michael Johnson Performance Centre in Dallas, a centre founded by Olympic runner Michael Johnson that provides personalised athletic training.

In early July, Phillips was lucky enough to meet Johnson when he visited the centre. She described meeting him as “incredible”.

“It was so cool because when you walk into the MJP Centre, there’s a little cabinet with the golden boots on the right and then all of his running uniforms and Team USA stuff,” she said.

“It’s very motivating when you go there, so when I got to meet him it was a huge privilege … he was a really cool guy and now I’ve finally put a face to the name in the facility that I’ve been working at.”
