Adelaide Crows AFLW superstar Erin Phillips is taking a punt on a new career, joining Mix 102.3’s breakfast radio show next month.

In her first full-time media role, Phillips, 34, will co-host the top-rating early morning program alongside Mark Soderstrom from January 20.

“I’m really excited, radio’s something new for me. I’ve dabbled in it before and found it really interesting and enjoyed it,” said the dual premiership captain who is on the comeback trail from a knee reconstruction.

“It’s always important as athletes to have something else... obviously I’m towards the end of my playing days and this is an area I’d love to work post footy.”

Phillips will replace regular co-host Jodie Oddy who is on maternity leave until April.

Soderstrom said the inspirational Phillips would be a perfect addition to the show.

“Erin has a great knack of succeeding at everything she puts her mind to and I have no doubt radio will be the same,” he said.

“Erin’s dedication, commitment and work ethic are inspiring and I hope some of it will rub off on me.”

Phillips, who has three young children with wife Tracy Gahan, said breakfast radio, with veteran broadcaster Soderstrom, was a perfect fit for her.

“I’m actually an early riser myself after having kids, I like to get up pretty early in the morning so this suits me just fine,” she said.

“And to get the opportunity to do it with Soda, who’s one of the greats at it, it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Phillips suffered an injury setback this week, undergoing more surgery on the left knee she had reconstructed following the Crows’ grand final win in March.

But she said she was still hopeful of leading her team in its Round 1 clash with the Brisbane Lions on February 8.

“That’s still my goal. It was very minor... we just decided to fix it now and keep moving on with a full head of steam afterwards. So things are good, I feel good and will hopefully back for round 1 and if not, sometime during the season,” she said.
