Country singer Beccy Cole is no stranger to destructive power of fire.
“We actually lost our home in a house fire when I was 16, and without the CFS I might not be here,” Cole said.
So when she was asked to donate her time to today’s Cudlee Creek Bushfire Benefit Concert at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood she jumped at the chance.
“I have a huge amount of gratitude – like we all do – for the CFS and all the other volunteers,” Cole said.
“I love that they’re calling this a ‘thank you concert’, because that’s what everyone wants to do – say thanks to these amazing people.”
Cole will be joined by a raft of South Australian artists, including Adam Page, The Bald Eagles, Ukulele Death Squad, DJ Driller and The Wanderers. Wanderers frontman Dusty Lee said playing the concert was his way of giving back.
“I have no skills or trades to help people rebuild, but I’m an artist and I can perform and perhaps I can create an environment where people can forget about what’s happened for a while and have a good time,” Lee said.
“Bringing people together, that’s what musicians can do.”
Cudlee Creek Bushfire Benefit Concert, tomorrow from 12pm to 9pm, National Motor Museum, Birdwood. Entry by generous donation, with all proceeds going to the bushfire appeal.
