Radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands has weighed in on the appointment of Ben Fordham to replace legendary broadcaster Alan Jones as 2GB breakfast host, calling it “a disaster.”
Speaking on his radio program The Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS 106.5 as the news broke that Jones would be retiring, Sandilands said the appointment of the popular afternoons host was a “massive mistake.”
“I like Ben Fordham but he needs to cut his teeth a little bit more … he’s a good afternoon guy,” he said.
“What a disaster. That’s what happens when a television station runs a radio network,” before adding. “That’s a massive mistake. Anyway good luck Ben Fordham.”
Sandilands also revealed that he was once approached to jump ship from his highly rated FM breakfast program to join the 2GB team.
“They made a real go to get me over at 2GB and I said ‘No way would I ever been seen dead at the grandma station,” Sandilands remarked. “You would have to learn about politics.”
While Sandilands insisted he and Fordham were friends, they’ve had disagreements in the past.
In April last year, Sandilands called Fordham “a piece of shit” and “a dog” after the KIIS 106.5 newsreader Brooklyn Ross defended Fordham on The Kyle & Jackie O Breakfast Show.
“I know he can go on like a bit of a bully, but the idea that he’d then take it out on his newsreader Brooklyn Ross and suggest that there’d be no news today just because Brooklyn was sticking up for me I think is red hot,” said Fordham at the time on 2GB Drive.
