FROM songstress to cyclist, Adelaide’s Rachael Leahcar is getting on her bike to raise money for a good cause.
The Voice finalist is taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge fundraiser for kids’ cancer research and has set a goal of riding 350km in October.
Legally blind, Leahcar, 24, has already clocked up 82km on a stationary bike at the Goodlife Gym on Anzac Highway, with her beloved guide dog Ella watching on closely.
“I’ve only just started cycling because I can’t really bike through the neighbourhood for fear of getting hit by a car or running someone over,” laughed Leahcar. “I’ve got a lot to go in the next two weeks but I’ll get through it – the kids go through so much worse, it’s nothing really.”
The singer, who’s releasing a new single next month, said she’s riding in memory of her cousin Suzanna Calabro who died from a brain tumour in 2011 aged just 19.
“It’s just not fair... so many children go through this every year,” Leahcar said. “It’s so important to find a cure and better treatments for cancer.”
