Adelaide tradie Jye Demmrich is riding the crest of a wave after featuring in a worldwide GoPro compilation video that’s simply jaw-dropping ... watch the footage here.

Adelaide tradie Jye Demmrich is riding the crest of a wave after winning a share of US$1 million in a global GoPro competition.

Mr Demmrich’s incredible footage of himself barrelling through a wave off the coast of Yorke Peninsula was among 45 clips selected from 42,000 submissions around the world in the annual GoPro Million Dollar Challenge.

All the clips have been combined into one adrenaline-pumping two-minute highlight video – you can watch it above – with each content creator taking home US$22,222 (approximately $33,000) for their efforts.

“I’m pretty stoked to be honest, I didn’t want to get my hopes up too much ... but it’s amazing to be one of the clips chosen,” said Mr Demmrich, 34, of Port Noarlunga, who was the only Australian featured in this year’s video.

An avid surfer for about 25 years, Mr Demmrich said a friend based interstate told him about the competition and encouraged him to enter.

“He had a concept for the video, so we waited for the (surfing) conditions to be right, he flew down to SA and we went and shot it,” said Mr Demmrich, who will split his winnings with his mate.

“SA’s got some of the best waves for it, we have the best barrels ... we get pretty spoiled.”

The crowd-sourced competition is designed to recognise “unique perspectives, spectacular adventures and captivating moments” from creative GoPro users around the world.

Father-of-two Mr Demmrich said he plans to spend his share of the prizemoney on a surfing trip to Hawaii and a family holiday to New York.

“I’ve surfed around Australia, in Bali, Fiji, Thailand, Indonesia ... but I’ve never been to the US,” he said. “The surfboard and the GoPro will definitely be coming with me as well.”
