Adelaide’s own international cabaret superstar Hans has turned up the volume in his quest to secure the America’s Got Talent: The Champions crown.
The Boy Wonder from Berlin dazzled a global audience with an energetic version of Jennifer Lopez’s hit Let’s Get Loud, on the US reality show’s grand final episode today.
The alter-ego of Sunday Mail columnist, Adelaide-born Matt Gilbertson, Hans said he was more than satisfied with his performance.
“I think it rivalled Jennifer Lopez’s Super Bowl (performance) and I’m waiting for my call for 2021,” said Hans, who wore a replica of Lopez’s famous green Versace dress.
“Really for me, I don’t see it as a competition, I’ve said it before, I see the rest of them as my support acts.
“Frankly I’m just there to put on the greatest show on Earth and I will say: mission accomplished.”
Judge Simon Cowell, who has a love-hate relationship with Hans, described the performance as “torture” but was visibly smiling throughout the performance.
“What can I say, British people, they know how to complain,” said Hans, who first performed on AGT in 2018.
“It’s almost - and I don’t want to be cynical here - it’s almost seems like he’s just doing it to add a bit of reality TV drama, call me crazy.”
The other judges were far more complimentary, with Howie Mandel saying his act - which finished with his Hans’ trademark splits - was one of his favourites.
“I think you are one of the most energetic, fun-loving, great acts, you are equally as entertaining when you are singing and dancing as when you are talking and fighting (with Cowell),” he said.
Ten acts performed during today’s finale with the winner to be announced next week.
Hans is also coming home to perform at next Thursday’s Advertiser Foundation Ladies Day Luncheon at the Hilton Adelaide Ballroom.
