SCENE-STEALING sleeves are making a dramatic entrance this season.
The bold voluminous sleeve took centre stage last week at the 77th Golden Globes in Beverly Hills where a number of actresses walked the red carpet in the trend including Australia’s Cate Blanchett, dressed by Mary Katrantzou in a limoncello taffeta and silk satin gown with a bodice fashioned from Swarovski crystals.
Statement sleeves are also a bold feature in Uurban’s Front Left range by Jess Henry, who is a graduate of the Bachelor of Creative Arts Fashion dual award degree offered by Flinders University and TAFE SA.
Ms Henry, 24, of Largs North, said her designs paid homage to 1980s bridesmaid dresses, which were famous for their overproportioned sleeves and electrifying colours.
“While this collection is inspired by the ’80s bridesmaids, I will be giving a more eccentric, unique and futuristic spin on the trend using asymmetry,” she said.
Her designs, which include the dress and bustier showcased by Finesse Models Australia’s Vaibhavi, whose make-up is by Tahnee Raymond, were created for women who love to express themselves through fashion.
“They are for someone who doesn’t shy away from the camera,” she said.
Uurban’s Front Left will be on show at the Kaleidoscope Bachelor of Creative Arts Fashion parade on February 8 at Flinders University.
