Adelaide Crows young gun Jordan Gallucci shaves off moustache to raise money for mental health research

Crows young gun Jordan Gallucci has given his trademark handlebar moustache the chop. But while the sacrifice was for a good cause, he’s not ruling out its comeback.

Fans may not have seen the last of Crows young gun Jordan Gallucci’s handlebar moustache.

After almost eight months on his upper lip, Gallucci finally shaved off his Super Mario-style mo at the Fellow Barber in Henley Beach today to raise money for men’s mental health research.

While no one was happier to see it go than his girlfriend, Lily Ritchie, Gallucci said he’s already considering regrowing his conspicuous facial hair.

“She (Lily) is very, very happy this day has come. She didn’t like it very much and neither did my mum for that matter. So they’re both very happy today,” he said.

“I reckon the mo will return. I’m not sure if the style will be different … but it does grow back pretty quick.”

What initially started as a bit of fun earlier in the year became an avenue for Gallucci to raise awareness for a cause close to his heart.

A young footballer at Gallucci’s junior football club, Lilydale in Victoria, recently took his own life and the tragedy hit the 21-year old hard.

“It’s one of those things that people don’t speak about enough. Men don’t talk about the way they feel, we just go about our business, it’s the blokey thing to do,” he said.

“This needs to change and change quickly. We have to try and start the conversation that hasn’t been happening. But it’s becoming more accepted and we’ve got to keep talking and keep promoting this.”

Gallucci has so far raised $5760 for the Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation, and people can still donate at his GoFundMe page.

“To be able to raise the amount of money we have has been unbelievable and I can’t thank everyone enough for all their support. It’s such a great cause,” he said.
