Move over Little Mix and the Spice Girls, rising Adelaide pop group G-NAT!ON is ready to bring girl power back to the Australian music scene.
Band members Taylah Silvestri, 16, Mateja Sardelis, 14, Emma Caporaso, 17, Rylee Vormelker, 15, Alessia Musolino, 15 and Isla Ward, 15, will today release their debut single, Girls Night Out, and the Adelaide teenagers are hoping to inspire young women to embrace sisterhood.
“Teenage girls really face a lot of hate these days and it’s on social media where this happens,” said lead singer Silvestri.
“This is about putting the message out there that girls really need to support girls and stick up for each other. They should be comfortable and confident in their own skin.”
Formed in 2017 by Australian Company of Performing Arts manager Pep Rigano, G-NAT!ON’s “catchy” debut track follows the theme of female empowerment.
“I think it’s important girls can have a laugh and have a talk and dance and sing without the interference from boys and just really enjoy each other’s company,” said Silvestri.
“It’s a really fun song, I think anyone who listens to it will automatically fall in love, it’s so catchy.”
Silvestri, who’s been performing since she was eight years old, said the sextet have been influenced by global pop supergroups the Spice Girls and Little Mix but they’re also trying to forge their own way in the industry.
“There’s not many groups of six girls out there... we have very good vocals and we’re dance orientated, when you put that together, it just makes for a unique band,” she said.
“We are all so excited, we’ve been working on it for a long time now - we've been working on it for two years and it’s finally all happening and all of our dreams are coming true.”
