A global pandemic wasn’t going to stop Adelaide 36ers star Anthony Drmic from tying the knot with his longtime love Jenna Griggs.
The couple exchanged vows at Botanic Park yesterday in front of only their marriage celebrant, Drmic’s teammatesJack McVeigh and Brendan Teys, and their dogs Owen and Lily.
“Jenna looked amazing, beautiful and perfect,” said Drmic of his bride.
US-born Jenna said their impromptu wedding proved “love always prevails”.
“It’s been really crazy to be honest,” she admitted.
“It took a full day of crying and a lot of wine and then we decided that we could figure anything out as long as we had each other.”
Before the coronavirus crisis hit, the couple – who met in the US when Drmic was playing college basketball – had planned to get married in front of family and friends at Longview Vineyard in June.
But when Jenna’s US-based family had their flights cancelled last week, they knew they had to make other plans.
“We called our celebrant and she said, ‘You’ve filled out the paperwork I could marry you anytime’. So we said, ‘What about Sunday?’ Jenna said, pictured in a photo byBrandon Hancock.
“We just picked a park, some close friends who could witness for us, grabbed a bouquet on the way here, put a quick outfit together and just decided marrying each other was the most important thing.
“When our future kids ask us how we got married, we’ll tell them we had a beautiful wedding planned at Longview and then everyone in the world got COVID-19, pretty much, so we had to make the most of a bad situation.”
