Cold Chisel says iconic band still on track VAILO Adelaide 500 and Aussie tour

Following Jimmy Barnes’s recent health scare, a Cold Chisel spokeswoman has shared a key update about their upcoming tour.

Cold Chisel’s upcoming national tour – including a show at November’s VAILO Adelaide 500 – will go ahead despite concerns over Jimmy Barnes’s health.

A spokeswoman for the legendary Australian rockers “confirmed” the 50th anniversary tour, including 20 sold-out gigs across October and November, will proceed as scheduled.

It comes just days after Barnes, 68, revealed he was still “tethered to a drip 24 hours-a-day” weeks after hip surgery, forcing him to miss a recent show in the Maldives.

“I’ve got a bit of FOMO actually that I’m not there, and if I wasn’t tethered to a drip, I’m on a drip 24 hours a day, I’d be there,” he said on Instagram.

But a Cold Chisel spokeswoman said there hadn’t been a new setback and the Maldives performance was cancelled back in early August, prior to his recent hip operation.

“I can confirm that the Cold Chisel tour is going ahead and that of course includes the VAILO 500 show,” the spokeswoman told The Advertiser.

The former Adelaide rocker has been unavailable for comment but on social media, shared photos of himself “recuperating” over the weekend.

“Breakfast in bed, physio, a walk in the garden, chicken rice … a pretty perfect Sunday, nowhere better for rest and recuperation at home with my girl,” Barnes captioned a series of snaps.

Doubts had been raised about Barnes’s ability to perform at the VAILO event on Sunday, November 17, which would be their first Adelaide show in several years.

In early August, Barnes said “a twinge” in his hip became “unbearable” as he was leaving the New Zealand city of Dunedin, as part of his Hell Of A Time tour. He had to go to hospital and cancel his tour dates in the following weeks.

“The doctors have recommended a remedial medical procedure ASAP followed by some physio to address the issue,” he said.

It came just a few months after he underwent open heart surgery for a life-threatening bacterial infection.

Cold Chisel is set to be joined on stage at the VAILO 500 by fellow Australian acts The Cruel Sea and The Superjesus.

Beloved pop band Crowded House, led by Neil Finn, will entertain revheads on Saturday, November 16, two years after their acclaimed appearance at SA’s Harvest Rock Festival.
