The success of Chebbo’s Burgers’ DIY Burger Kits was a silver lining of lockdown for owner and social media sensation Ali Chebbani. And now, with lockdowns lifting, Chebbani is ready to put the focus back on his Roselands food truck.
The corporate accountant student started up Chebbo’s Burgers just before the pandemic hit, but found fame and success during it by doing burger tutorials for his 600 000 followers on TikTok.
Chebbani has now set up a permanent food truck in Roselands and is the process of rolling out a second truck, which will travel around the city and interstate when borders open. “The DIY burger kits were a way to reach customers who can’t make it to the truck, but now it’s time to double down on the face-to-face trading. I’ve missed it,” Chebbani said.
Over the weekend, in his first weekend of trading, Chebbani sold close to 500 burgers a night.
His most famous being the American style burger with two beef patties, a secret house sauce and milk bun.
“It was our third biggest weekend ever,” he said. “We sold out.”
“It’s honestly been such a wild ride, “ he says of his booming success. “But it’s about playing the cards you’ve got. ”
