Long serving 7NEWS Adelaide reporter Andrea Nicolas is leaving TV land for the world of politics.
Nicolas who has clocked up close to 17 and a half years with the Seven Network – this time around – will take over the role of Treasurer Stephen Mullighan’s senior media adviser in the coming weeks.
She is taking over from Jennifer Salter, who was also previously a television news reporter, and is the wife of Chris Salter.
He was previously Nicolas’s boss as the news director of 7NEWS Adelaide but is now in that position in Seven’s Melbourne newsroom – which is why his wife is leaving her plum job.
Mark Mooney is now 7NEWS Adelaide’s news director.
Nicolas studied journalism at the University of South Australia after which she worked as a freelance reporter for Seven in the UK.
Stints with the ABC and BBC followed before she joined 7NEWS Adelaide in early 2007.
A versatile journalist, who has also been called on as a newsreader and producer, Nicolas has been the political reporter for a number of years.
However, after she gave notice – to become a political staffer – understandably she was pulled from that round.
Nicolas said she was excited by her new opportunity “joining a talented team”.
“It’s been an incredible 18 years on and off at Seven, working with some of the best in the business and having a range of great experiences, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge and the next chapter,” she said.
7NEWS Adelaide news director Mark Mooney said: “Andrea departs with our full support and thanks for her extraordinary contribution to 7NEWS Adelaide over almost two decades.”
He added: “This is a fantastic opportunity, and we wish her every success. We’ll try not to give her too hard a time!”
Last month The Advertiser revealed two of Adelaide’s most experienced TV camera operators were let goas part of the Seven Network’s nationwide mass redundancies.
