IT TAKES a lot to upstage Denzel Washington, unless you’re his own flesh and blood, of course.

While accepting the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award during the Golden Globes, the Flightstar was joined on stage by his loving family, which included his son John David Washington, who is also an actor.

Before Washington, 61, himself could wrap up his acceptance speech, the social sphere was already abuzz with the Internet’s newest (and hottest) super star.

Though daddy dearest may be considered Hollywood royalty, this smouldering 31-year-old is quickly climbing the ranks.

Everyone’s talking about John David Washington.

His breakout role came alongside dad Denzel:

The California native got his start on the big screen with a small role alongside his dear old dad in 1992’s Malcolm X. The elder Washington would ultimately score a Best Actor nomination from the Academy.

He’s a former football star:

After securing a football scholarship to Morehouse College, the running back would then enter the NFL Draft in 2006. Though signed by the St. Louis Rams, John David was cut before the start of the regular season that year. He would then go on to play in the NFL Europa league in 2007 before inking a deal with the United Football League in 2009.

Talk about being multi-talented.

But that isn’t his ONLY game:

While the screen stud certainly excelled on the football field, he was also a member of the basketball and track teams during his high school years at Studio City’s elite Campbell Hall.

He’s always preferred acting to sports:

Contrary to popular belief, this star on the rise has always preferred the theatrics to athletics. “It was in my heart my whole life,” John David shared with Sports Illustrated last June, “but every kid has their rebel kind of thing, so my rebel, I turned to football, ’cause I always loved it too, but this was my thing.”

The Rock is his latest co-star:

As the spirited NFL pro Ricky Jerret on HBO’s Ballers, the former football standout gets to share the screen with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on a regular basis. #Blessed

He’s building his resume:

While acting may be his first love, Denzel’s oldest son scored a co-producer credit for the 2010 action-thriller The Book of Eli, which starred his pops.
