Meghan Markle has been caught in an awkward exchange after being snubbed by a royal fan during her Fab Four walkabout.

A video clip shared on social media captures the moment when the woman refused to put her hand out when Meghan went to shake it.

The woman bows her head and refuses to give Markle eye contact.

The royal fan then turns her head away completely from the Duchess of Sussex altogether.

QUEEN’S SECRET CODED MESSAGES TO STAFF

More has been revealed about how the Queen used secret codes in order to communicate with her staff.

Her former press secretary Dickie Arbiter told News Corp there was one clear signal, and it involved her handbag.

“There really was only one clear signal: if she was sitting, she would move her bag from one side of the chair to the other,’’ Mr Arbiter said.

“If she was standing, then she’d change her bag from the crook of her left arm to her right arm.’’

Contrary to public belief, Mr Arbiter said she never put her bag on the table as part of a secret code.

The shift of the bag was designed to alert staff that Her Majesty needed to move on from her current meeting or conversation, without causing offence.

Staff would then tactfully interrupt and escort her away.

The use of a handbag was a good ploy to avoid offence or detection: the famous bag was always by her side, and was so much a part of the Queen’s persona that it even featured, playfully, in the hands of one of her great-grandchildren, Mia Tindall, in a formal portrait to mark her 90th birthday.

Managing editor of Majesty Magazine Joe Little said he had heard the story that her handbag was used to send secret codes but he’d never seen anything to substantiate it.

“Putting the handbag over one arm – it’s a great story but whether it’s really a signal, I don’t know. I’d like it to be true,’’ he said.

Royal historian Hugo Vickers told People magazine: “It would be very worrying if you were talking to the Queen and saw the handbag move from one hand to the other.’’

But, he said, it was always done “very nicely’’.

The Queen was reported to have used other codes, including fiddling with her ring, which was apparently a sign that she wished to be urgently removed from a person’s company.

In Buckingham Palace, a discreet buzzer was placed in the rooms where the Queen held her formal audiences, which would alert staff to the need to enter the room and wrap up a meeting.

Even as a 90 year old, the Queen still held about 430 formal audiences (or meetings) a year, and she and Prince Philip briefly met thousands of people every year, at public events, functions and on street walks.

Like all celebrities aware there are many people wishing to meet her, the Queen was skilled at working her way down a long line of wellwishers, accepting flowers, handshakes and greetings, while continuing to move forwards.
