British singer Jesy Nelson is under fire once again, accused of mocking the “blackfishing” claims against her.
The former Little Mix singer was forced to delete an Instagram shot of herself in an orange jacket bearing the logo Market Black – as her hair covered the first word of that name, The Sun reports.
She was appearing on the red carpet at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard at London’s O2 Arena, where she performed.
It comes after she was accused of blackfishing – the practice of a non-black person trying to appear black – in the video for her October debut single Boyz, but later denied using fake tan.
Yet one fan who spotted her Jingle Bell moment said: “Jesy Nelson and her entire team are just trolling and mocking black women now. And it reeks of ignorance, arrogance, desperation and misogynoir.”
Insiders said the latest row had left Jesy devastated, after she was told about it just minutes before she went on stage.
A source said: “She had no idea, when her hair was pulled over one shoulder on the red carpet, that it was covering the start of the logo.
Her team didn’t say a word when it was happening and even posted the picture on Instagram before deleting it a few minutes later.
“Jesy was so upset when she was told what had happened and was shown the photographs. She was totally focused on her performance and this put a huge dark cloud over everything.
“Those close to her were furious and said she should sack her stylist. It was such a stupid thing to do and it made Jesy look like a fool again.”
